Canon: Air Gear
Character: Minami Itsuki
Timeline: Post-series
Personality:
As a kid, Ikki was always getting into trouble. At the same time, it was very clear that he was an extremely lucky child, who was ‘loved by the wind’. He climbed the top of Tokyo Tower and jumped off, at only 5 years old. He was saved by a giant crow that caught him and brought him back to safety. And that was not even the stupidest thing he’d do in his lifetime.
By elementary school he was already getting into fights with his classmates, deciding to do what he wanted, to live by his own rules. That was always his one goal, to run his own road, to break out of any limits forced upon him. While he may appear crude and juvenile at times, he has won over many friends to his cause simply because of his simple outlook.
He speaks his mind, no matter how stupid he sounds, and loves playing practical jokes on his friends. He taunts his opponents, and generally doesn’t take things too seriously. Only when people depend on him does he get riled up and push his limits. As his team trains to get stronger, Ikki spends most of his time lounging around, preferring to get stronger in the middle of battle than waste time doing boring exercises.
Somehow, he is a true leader, and is always the reliable anchor. When his team is on the verge of losing, Ikki has a plan or scheme that he is able to produce that leads them to victory.
One of Ikki’s passions is wrestling. Probably because his eldest sister Rika had been known to wrestle professionally to pay for the family’s needs. He’s watched thousands of hours of wrestling on TV, which he is known to bring up and reference from time to time.
Ikki’s weakness has always been beautiful women. And yet, the girl that has always loved him, Ringo, as beautiful as she is, he was too nearsighted to be able to see her as a possible romantic partner until it was nearly too late. He saw her as attractive, which was obvious by the amount of times he would sneak into the bath to see Ringo naked, but he didn’t realize he loved her until much later.
His greatest strength is simply an iron will. When faced with impossible odds of being a teenager facing a genetically engineered human weapon who had decades of AT experience over him, Ikki never feared losing, and never backed down. When the odds are against him he perseveres, unable to be held down by anything or anyone. This has the downside of making him an annoying person to deal with sometimes, as he definitely has no modesty, openly referring to himself as the Great Ikki-sama, and expecting people to bow down to him.
Background:
The world may not know his name, but they certainly know what he did. He changed the entire world’s lives in only just a few minutes. And it all started in a middle school in Tokyo, Japan.
Everyone in the area knew the toughest kid at Higashi Junior High. “Babyface Ikki” was a tough as nails brawler who had beaten up every kid in a 10 mile radius. No one could beat him in a fair fist fight, and he was proud of it. That was until he was destroyed by the Skull Saders. They were a gang of deviants who wore special powered roller skates that instantly gave them edge over Ikki. In only minute they were able to defeat the unbeatable Babyface, so bad that he pissed himself. Ikki’s reputation was ruined, all because of those skates.
Sometime in the early 21st century super powered roller skates called Air Trecks were invented, and became popular with the world’s teenagers, creating a movement of skaters who called themselves “Stormriders.” AT’s give anyone who wears them the feeling of flying, due to a built in air cushioning system that lets the riders land safely from deadly heights, as well as increasing their speed and jumping strength. It was these abilities that gave the Skull Saders such an unfair advantage.
Devastated and humiliated, Ikki returned home. He lived with four women, as he was left in their care when he was younger. The Noyamano sisters had taken care of Ikki since he was a baby, all while keeping a secret from him. When they found out that Ikki had been beat, they decided to show Ikki the feeling of flying, by giving him his first pair of AT’s. Ikki quickly got the hang of riding AT’s, due to his natural talent. With only a short time practicing, he was able to fight a rematch against the Skull Saders, winning back his reputation.
At the top of his school again, Ikki’s friends picked up Air Trecks as well, training their best to be like Ikki. They quickly got pulled into the world of Stormriders, learning that the only way to get stronger was to participate in something called a Parts War. They were contests that were set up over the Internet, where each team would wager AT parts or their team emblem, and the loser would give the winner the parts or disband their team. Through the Parts War Ikki and his friends Kazu and Onigiri beat Buccha, the leader of a team that ran their middle school at night. After defeating them, Buccha decided to join their team, Kogarasumaru, and the three became four.
And so Ikki and his friends continued to fight in Parts Wars, eventually gaining more members and fans. In particular, the young boy Akito who was abused by his brother and left to live in a cage. The boy had split personalities, with his other more violent self, Agito, being one of the legendary Kings of the Stormrider world. With Agito on their team they move up in rank in the Parts War, defeating riders who should have been way above their level.
As Ikki and his friends get deeper and deeper into the world of Air Trecks, his childhood friend and live-in love interest, Ringo Noyamano, gradually fears where Ikki is heading. Secretly, she heads the Sleeping Forest, a team that existed before the popularity of Air Trecks, bent on keeping the Regalia’s, special AT parts that make them into super weapons, out of the hands of anyone. As Ikki gets stronger and closer to where Ringo stands at the top of the stormrider world, she worries that he does not take AT’s seriously, and that he is simply using them for fun, ignorant of the danger to the world that are.
Unable to reconcile, Ikki finds that Ringo’s mechanic plans to sabotage Ikki’s AT’s and so Ikki takes off, with Ringo following him. They decide to have a race, so they can show each other how they feel by battling. Ikki finally see’s her serious side, where they both go all out to win. The battle ends in a draw, but Ikki decides to move out of his childhood home, as he’s learned that his ideas about AT are directly opposed to Ringo and the rest of the Noyamano sisters.
From there, Ikki is chosen to lead Genesis, the team that rivals Ringo’s Sleeping Forest. However, Ikki is only a figurehead, and when Sora, the old leader of Genesis comes out of retirement and betrays Ikki’s trust, Kogarasumaru is caught in the middle.
Genesis, with Sora and his twin brother Nike in charge, plan to destroy Sleeping Forest and awaken the Sky Regalia, which would make Sora the most powerful person in the world. With a rogue American General, Sora kidnaps the eldest Noyamano sister and takes her captive aboard an American Aircraft Carrier. At that time the GramScale tournament begins, which opens the
Trophaeum Tower, a giant inverted tower that goes deep into the Earth. With the Tower open, Sora has a chance to reach the Sky Regalia. Ikki and his team work with Sleeping Forest to stop Sora, splitting up their forces with Ikki, Ringo and the President of the United States, John Omaha, in a teenage girl’s body.
Ikki’s group arrives too late, as Sora activates the Sky Regalia. The Tower inverts itself, extending from the surface all the way into space. From there Ikki and Ringo fight through the Tower to meet with Sora, declaring a final battle that is televised all over the world. Sora, who destroys his own eyes to fight, transmits to the world that he is their new god. However, Ikki and Ringo manage to defeat Sora and destroy the Tower, causing the Earth to lose its gravitational pull for a few minutes, which around the world becomes known as “Flying Day”, as named by Stephen Hawking.
With the Sky Regalia destroyed, and the world back to normal, Ikki and his friends go back to their daily lives.
Abilities/Additional Notes:
On AT’s Ikki is possibly the strongest fighter in his world. Without even turning on the skates, he is able to destroy steel walls with his kicks, jump 100’s of feet into the air, and race at incredible speeds. However, without any real motivation, he’s mostly just a normal rider. That is, he can move about 30-40 mphs, ride vertical walls, and jump from a ten story building without damage as long as he lands on his skates.
On foot with no AT’s, Ikki is still above normal humans. His fighting skill is nearly unbeatable, and he still has some access to his Storm abilities, like control over the wind around his body. With his AT’s he can use his command over wind to create laser beams of air, he can use it to propel himself, and create a space-like area that can act like a black hole.
Other than Ikki’s unique bone structure that make it a lot harder to break his bones, he’s still human. A gun would put him out of commission, and a large enough fall would still probably seriously injure him.
Sample Journal Post:
It is I, the Great Ikki-sama!
...And I’ve got no clue why the hell I’m here, but it better be for a good reason. If this is another stupid virtual reality game then I’m gonna kick who’s ever ass it is that brought me here. ...After I finish it and get the high score.
Although, it actually doesn’t feel much like a game at all. It’s nothing like that time at Falco’s. If this is real, then I’ll just have to find the wizard that brought me here and kick his ass!
This is all really strange, it’s starting to feel like a manga. And not even one of the good ones about fighting and pirates.
Sample RP:
The sun was starting to set, and Ikki hadn’t found someone who could give him any real information. It felt like a game where all the NPC’s just said the same lines over and over. He made sure to add that tidbit to the “This is definitely just a game” column in his head.
However, when his stomach started growling from hunger he had to add that to the “okay maybe it’s real,” side. Luckily, he spotted a vending machine and made a beeline over to it, nearly running over a person or two. Of course to the King’s dismay, it didn’t seem to take any of the coins he had in his pocket or his bills.
“Stupid machine, give me your treasure!” Ikki was not the type of person to just walk away when confronted with adversity. Not even when the food inside looked terribly old. No, he was hungry and he would have his prize.
So he moved to the side of the machine and pulled his leg back, then swung his leg in a roundhouse kick, the back of his foot meeting the metal machine. However, Ikki didn’t seem to remember how strong his kick would be, which sent the heavy vending machine flying down the street instead of just breaking open.
“Oh...shit,” she said to himself, noticing all eyes on him. He slowly skated over to the machine and righted it back up, making sure to pat some dirt off the side, as if to say, “Good as new!” Then, as the people watched he snatched a handful of bags from the destroyed machine and took off into the sky, laughing maniacally.
